From October 3 to 13, 2019 at the Lope de Vega Theater in Seville, the classic play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Shakespeare will be performed by the Classic Theater Company of Seville.
The absolute premiere of the work, will be directed by Alfonso Zurro, who brings this new proposal based on the feeling of hatred that confronts families, peoples, nations or ideologies, and prevents love from flourishing.
THE PLAY
It is one of the most popular works of the English author. The plot of this tragedy is based on an Italian tale by Mateo Bandello translated into verse as ‘The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet’ by Arthur Brooke in 1562 and retold in prose in ‘Palace of Pleasure’ by William Painter in 1567 to which Shakespeare added new secondary characters such as Mercutio and Paris to make his own story.
The romance between Romeo and Juliet will be marred by the eternal rivalry between the Montagues and the Capulets to the point of causing an unexpected tragedy in a desperate attempt to be together.
Performances will take place from Tuesday to Saturday at 8:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
