Holy Week in SevilleOnce again, Seville is prepared to celebrate one of their most important celebrations: Holy Week During nine days, the city will live intense moments, from the brotherhoods processions as the Macarena and San Gonzalo or to other such is the Vera Cruz or the Mortaja. Furthermore, as a prelude to Holy Week has already been held, the Via Crucis of the Faith, with the participation of 14 Holy Week brotherhoods and performed in the surroundings of the Cathedral. 

Holy Week 2014 

In 1604 it gives rise to one of the most identifiable aspects to the current Holy Week, known as the official course route. It is from the seventeenth century when the confraternities started to resemble the current format used.  The eighteenth century marks a slight decline for the fraternities, which re-emerged thanks to the interest shown by the nobility, especially the Dukes of Monpensier in the nineteenth century. Is the mid-twentieth century when the foundations of the current model of the Holy Week are based, resulting in a recognized model and imitated. In recent years there have been incorporating new brotherhoods, especially in the suburbs of the city.
