On October 12, 15, 17 and 19, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. the performances of Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti will take place at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.

Don Pasquale is the opera number 64 of the 66 that Gaetano Donizetti composed. With libretto by Giovanni Ruffini and Gaetano Donizetti on text by Angelo Anelli for ‘Ser Marcantonio’ by Stefano Pavesi.

This opera buffa premiered at the Théâtre italien in Paris on January 3, 1843. The premiere in Spain took place at the Teatro de la Cruz in Madrid on January 4, 1845.

In these performances we will have Corrado Rovaris, musical director of the Philadelphia Opera Company, to be in charge of the ROSS and the A.A Choir. from the Teatro de la Maestranza. The voices of Joan Martín-Royo, Anicio Zorzi Giustiniani, Sara Blanch and Francisco Escala extol the cast.

Synopsis

The action is situated in Rome, at the beginning of the 19th century.

Don Pasquale, an old and rich bachelor, refuses to have his nephew Ernesto marry the young widow Norina as she is of humble origin. Instead, the young man must marry a high-ranking lady or else he will be disinherited by his uncle.

With the help of the ingenious Doctor Malatesta, lovers will draw up a hilarious plan to make love triumph without having to suffer the consequences of Don Pasquale.
