After thousands of years, still the traces left by the Romans remain in Seville. The Roman Empire was established in this city in 206 BC and was defeated by the Visigoths in the fifth century. Until then, Hispalis acquired a large commercial and industrial importance as one of the most important centers of the Empire.
The trace of a civilization
I. The Alfalfa Square, was the Roman Forum. This area was characterized by public buildings, markets and temples.
II. The Temple, It was at the intersection of Marble and Air streets, we can see three columns practically intact.
III. The columns in the Alameda de Hercules. Today the statues hold on the sculptures of emperor Julius Caesar and Hercules, the founder of the city.
IV. Decuman and Cardo Maximus it was the main street of the Roman town, one of them oriented north-south and the other one east-west, here was located the commercial center of the city.
V. The aqueduct, which still the city retains closest to Puerta de Carmona.
VI. The walls of the Macarena neighborhood, and even the name itself is a Roman, which means Macario´s property.
VII. Antiquarium: mosaics, columns, murals and houses were found to perform the works of Metropol Parasol.
